Rent car Askrigg North Yorkshire

3 Winville Mews sleeps four guests in two bedrooms and is perfectly placed for a Yorkshire holiday in a quiet position right in the heart of the popular Dales village of Askrigg with its village shop, deli, pubs, restaurants and tea rooms.

With two bedrooms, this mews style cottage is an ideal place to relax and unwind where you can soak up the wonderful views over Wensleydale. With an multi-fuel stove for chilly nights and a patio for a glass of wine during the warmer months, 3 Winville Mews has wide appeal all year round.

Askrigg nestles beneath the picturesque fells of Askrigg Common and Ellerkin close to the top of Wensleydale. Its main street is lined with attractive stone cottages and houses and it has a charming old market square with cobbles complete with an original iron bull ring, pump, market cross and an attractive 15th Century church (St Oswalds) at its heart.

Used as a film set on many occasions in 'All Creatures Great and Small', visitors to Askrigg may recognise this small village as fictitious 'Darrowby', home to James Herriot and his veterinary practice. Cringley House in the main street was known as ‘Skeldale House’ in the BBC series and the Kings Arms doubled up as the ‘Drovers Arms’.

The village has some small shops for stocking up on provisions including a good village store, delicatessen, local farm that sells eggs, milk and cream, a newsagents and a choice of three pubs, The Crown Inn, the famous Kings Arms (with The Silks Restaurant) and The White Rose (literally next door to the cottage), all providing bar meals.

Many visit the Yorkshire Dales for a walking holiday and Askrigg is an excellent choice for those with a passion for this popular activity. The village sits between Leyburn and Hawes and offers an excellent choice of walks with something to suit all energy levels including walks that take in waterfalls such as Mill Gill Force and Whitfield Force, along with famous Aysgarth Falls a little further away.

There are also plenty of attractions for all ages locally including caves such as Ingleborough Caves for its incredible limestone scenery; White Scar Cave in Ingleton (Britain's longest show cave); Bolton Castle at Leyburn (where Mary Queen of Scots was once imprisoned) offering a great range of events and activities and Skipton Castle, one of the country's finest medieval castles, to name just a few.
